Gibraltar Swim 2010 - A Two Way

The Swim

On the week beginning the 20th of June 2010, Chris, Rich, James and Rob are making a two way crossing of the Gibraltar Straits.

All of us have previously swam across the English Channel, but a two way Gibraltar swim will be at least 26 miles, which will be the longest swim any of us have done.

Only 5 people have successfully crossed the straits and come back again, and none of those 5 are British.

The Swimmers

James Salter is 44 and works for Polar Capital Partners, specialising in the Japanese markets. James lives in the Cotswolds. He currently swims for the Masters at 4 Shires Swimming Club.

Chris Smith is 22 and works as a trainee chartered accountant for Everyclick. Chris is also a member of the 4 Shires Swimming Club.

Richard Ing is 20 and is joining the Royal Navy in September. Rich lives in the Cotswolds, and is also a 4 Shires swimmer.

Robert Telford is 29 and has just finished training as a commercial airline pilot. He completed the English Channel in 2008 in a mammoth time of 16 hours and a half.

Last Time......

On September 26th, James, Chris and Rich successfully crossed the Straits of Gibraltar in 4 Hours 16 Minutes.

We had a run in with whales and dolphins; let’s hope for the same this time!

We raised £13,876.50 for the three charities we chose - The Luke Jeffrey Memorial Trust, Help for Heroes and Amicus for Aids. We raised funds at www.justgiving.com/europetoafrica
